Surgical vs. Non-Surgical: Which Is Right for You?

Understand the difference between surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments, and how to decide which fits your goals, timeline, and budget.

One of the most common questions we hear is whether a concern needs surgery or can be addressed with a non-surgical treatment. The honest answer is: it depends on your goals, your anatomy, and how much change you’re looking for.

When non-surgical shines

Injectables like Juvéderm, treatments like Kybella and CoolSculpting, and professional skincare are excellent for softening early signs of aging, restoring subtle volume, and refining small areas — with little or no downtime. They’re a wonderful starting point and a way to maintain results over time.

When surgery is the better tool

When there’s loose skin, significant volume change, or a structural concern, surgery delivers what injectables can’t. A tummy tuck repairs separated muscle; a face lift repositions tissue; breast procedures reshape and lift. The results are more dramatic and longer lasting.

Often, it’s both

Many patients combine approaches — surgery for the foundation, non-surgical treatments for maintenance and polish. At your consultation, Dr. Guarda will recommend the least invasive path that achieves your goal, and never more than you need.
